Meet Bob

The first of the ads I have offered for major awards at specialties in 2003 is up. Meet "Bob" aka as  Ch. Ryuukyuumaru Go Gold Typhoon who was Best of Breed at the recent Evergreen Shiba Inu Specialty.

Flash! Bob wins the NSCA National Specialty!

Shibas at Europe Championship 2003

This is the second most prestigious FCI dog show (after World Championship FCI) that takes place once a year, each year in a different European country. This year Europe Championship Dog Show took place in Bratislava - Slovakia, on 3-5 October. Shibas were competing on Oct 3rd, under the judge  Mr.MASAMITSU FUKUSHIMA, from Japan.

Under the FCI rules, the best female and the best male from all classes, over 15 months old, (including Champion class) get Europe Champion title, and CACIB - certificate for International Champion FCI. The second best adult male and female from all classes receive reserve CACIB (like reserve winner).
The Junior Europe Champion title is also awarded to one female and one male from Junior classes- 9-18 months old. Both Europe Champions (male and female) and both Junior Europe Champions (male and female) finally compete for BOB title. The BOB winner is competing later in groups, and BIS. The puppy, and veteran classes do not compete for BOB, or groups, but there are separate BIS puppy and BIS veteran competitions.

INTREPID MUSEUM TO HONOR HERO DOGS

New York, NY - September 3, 2003 -  The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum
will "go to the dogs" on September 6 as the museum will be hosting the
events to honor the often-overlooked heroes of the nation, the Working
Dogs.

The museum will showcase the talents of Search and Rescue Dogs, Therapy
Dogs,  Vision Assistance, Arson Investigation and other service dogs.
In addition to local agencies that use service dogs, this event includes
dogs from all branches of the federal government that utilize them.

Of special interest is the launching of a new book by Cpt. Scott Shields
of the NYC Parks Department.  He and his golden retriever, "Bear", were
the first and only Search and Rescue team on the site of the World Trade
Center, making the only live finds and the majority of finds at that
location.

"This is a day to recognize the dogs and their handlers," said Shields,
"We want to let them know that they are heroes."  Cpt. Shields said of
this day at the Intrepid, "In this sacred place honoring heroes, we will
honor these often overlooked ones."

This event, expected to be the largest event of its kind ever held in
the United States, is being held in cooperation with the Bear Search and
Rescue Foundation, which Cpt. Shields organized in his late companion's
name in order to assist with the formation of other Search and Rescue
groups around the country.

A highlight of this event will be the presentation of the second annual
"Extraordinary Service to Humanity Awards".

Cpt. Shields urged, "We encourage everyone who loves animals, everyone
who's been touched by these wonderful dogs, and everyone who wants to
meet and thank these anonymous heroes to attend."

Shiba is Best Bred By Exhibitor in Show

at Southern Oregon KC. The big winner was Mia owned and handled by Joni Morningstar. I don't have her registered name off the top of my head but hopefully Joni will give more details.

Shibas in July

I know that Jane Chapin had Catty out at a few shows and got some breeds. Also that Joy Burlingame, Amanda Duncan and Yori Green's BBE bitch took several points and also a 5 point major up at Waukesha. Pat Doescher finished her Chip at Waukesha, and her and Karen Drentlaw's TJ took a major there at the Saturday show. Pat also got a major on her black & tan girl Peep on Saturday. Tammy Szabo's Toby was Best of Breed 3 days at Waukesha (one day defeating grandpa Mickey). Mickey was BOB at the Sunday show. Yori Green finished her Jou at Belvidere by not only taking breed over 2 specials, but onto a Group III under Elaine Rigden who is very sparing in her giving of group rosettes to shibas. Letha Gast's and my Niji took two points out of BBE while still a baby, he's now back at home with Letha since he looks like a teenager (and a naked one at that!). Mickey was Best of Breed the first day at Belvidere under Peggy Hogg. I will TRY to get some pictures up here of these dogs if someone would send some (hint! hint!)

Something else we did was attend the Shiba Rescue picnic hosted by Midwest Shiba Rescue. There was an online auction before the picnic and they raised quite a bit of money between that and the raffle held at the picnic. I was there with Jonathan and my dad and his wife Carol, and we also had Mickey & Guess and I picked up Jimmy who was coming home from Pat Doescher's house where he spent a little time during the month. Thanks to MJ for taking such good care of him and I'm sorry I scared you by removing him from the expen but I was so sure he'd be good at one of the games I couldn't wait. I can't remember who won all the games, I think Linda Manlove's male was Biggest shiba, Guess tied for biggest shiba smile, Cassie the honorary shiba won the cheese ball catch (she does have the biggest mouth after all LOL). Good food, good company and lots of fun. Be sure not to miss it next year! There should be pictures up soon at Midwest Shiba Rescue.

CheesyClassic03.jpg (217909 bytes) First of all, big news at the Shiba Classic where my friend Rosie VanLaanen had a dream win at the Shiba Classic in May. Her breeder-owner-handled Chihisa (known by her friends as Cheesy) was Best in Show only a few months after her Mom's Nari's win at the National. Not sure Rosie is ever coming down from these two wins :)

Here are some sweeps results that Pat Doescher reported on:

"Best in Sweeps was a 6 month old Toyo daughter out of Gessho (my Ch. Hi-Jinx
Pimiento's daughter) owned by Joy Burlingame of IL.   (Toyo is Yori Green's
import from a few years ago)
Best of Opposite Sex in Sweeps  went to Rosie VanLaanen's new puppy boy Riki
who is 10 weeks of age and bred by Suzanne Church of Bark River Shibas.
Riki's sire is  Ch. Hananishiki Go Ryuukyuu Uruma and his dam is Ch. Bark
River's Mitsu Hana.

Dutch, Dutch Delirious of Narmenak my new import from Holland sired by Ch.
Hi-Jinx Ambush and out of Mia Gentama Hime Go Narmenak and bred by Tineke
Van Toor won 1st in his class of 6 over all older pups.  He is almost 4-1/2
months old and not the most glamorous age.  I sent him with Rosie Van Laanen
who I hear had her hands full showing him cause he thought he was a leaping
gazelle.  LOL  So much fun.  Nothing like a good personality on a pup.

Hi-Jinx Black Minx (Kozan Go Yokohama Atsumi X Ch. Hi-Jinx Black Nightshade)
won 2nd in her class and I don't know how many were in there.  I guess she
behaved well considering she is also a very fun loving and out going little
girl."
