| Well I've been lax in my updates, and I promise
once again to try to be more prompt! This may seem a bit discombobulated
but just going through stuff I wanted to put on and never got around to
it! |

Big news this time is Pat Doescher's great win at the Shiba Classic.
Ch. Hi-Jinx Chip Shot made it another win for the
midwest area! Chip won a page on the Shibaweb for a year, we offer this
to the breed winner at any specialty type show.
At top is a picture of Laura Payton's bitch that was Jun-Saikousho BOS
at the Classic, at the bottom is Sandie & Tom Rolenaitis' JB (Can/Am Ch.
Innisfree Kin No Takara) who is now a Nippo champion as well with his win
at the Classic. Photo is by Nick Tracano.

Last Saturday (12 June) we went to the MSIR
Shiba pic nic, check out their
site for many pictures
and a synopsis. They had a wonderful agility course set up and a lot of
people gave it a shot. If I thought I could remember where everything was
going to be, I might even give it a shot myself! |
| Sandwiching the shiba picnic were the Little
Fort of Waukegan and Chain O Lakes KC shows. Our (mine and Jonathan's) Sweetie
(Storm Swept's Dutch Treat) was Best of Breed both days from the puppy class
(no specials) and Clark (Otoko De Steel) owned by Letha Gast was BOS. It
was a real mudbath on Friday, I remember IMing with Pat Doescher on Thursday
night that I was going to bathe dogs and she said "why?". I thought that
was strange until I arrived at the show site to see we were OUTDOORS! It
had to do with leap year, all the dog show weekends are a little off this
year LOL After many days of rain, that show site was a haven for 4 wheel
drive vehicles. My own Caravan (AWD thank goodness) looks like she's been
in a mud competition! |

| Glady Mueller wrote to me with news of her
win "owner-handled!" with Shakori Evening Primrose (Ch. Hi-Jinx Pimiento
x Ch. Hi-Jinx Black Nightshade). She was BOS for 2 points at Oshkosh KC
in May. She sends thanks to Pat for introducing her to this wonderful breed. |

Received this picture of Skip (2 years) and Max (3 months) from Steve
Oelklaus in St. Louis, MO |
| Have you always wondered about the shiba that appeared on
"Stargate", well
here's the whole story! An amazing story of a girl and her dog! |
The volunteers of Northeast Shiba Rescue are in dire need
of donations for our most recent foster. As difficult as it is for
us to ask for your help, it's more difficult for us to watch her struggle
through each day. Our organization just doesn't have the funds needed
to cover the total cost of her surgery, and would welcome any and all donations.

| News from Geert Jan in the Netherlands:
My best Pal, my best friend, my Sumo... achieved a wonderful result at
last weekend's "Dog of the Year-Show" here in Holland. He qualified for
the fifth time in a row for this event (Best In Show in 2000).
There was very tough competition and he was awarded with a Group-1.
The judge described him as "the smiling Samurai". What a joy and also what
a sadness for this might have been his last appearance in the show ring
and I realized this all too well while showing him. Oh no.. there's nothing
wrong with him, but enough is enough. He did his best for me.
Please,
let me share with you a photo impression of the show at:

This was brought to the attention of Shiba Lers by Debbie Schaeffer and Tiger.
This is a website for a shiba website in Japan. I can't read any of it without a
translator but the pictures are darned cute!

I created a separate page for
this report for Geert Jan, there are links to pictures of some of the winners.

Great news from Tammy Szabo and Toby who took a Group First
and Second at Ottumwa Iowa (click on the smaller image to see the full size
photo). I think one of Joy Burlingame's bitches did something there too,
but I can't remember now, Joy help! Tammy was kind enough to send me a picture
of Toby's big win! Grandpa Mickey sends a high five! |
| We went to Indianapolis the same weekend and
got two majors on Rosie Van Laanen's Riki. Picture to come with Jonathan
who showed him for Winners Dog on Saturday and won his first major! We also
had Niji there for Letha Gast and he took RWD both days. Larry was there
too, but we lost to Pam Peterson and Norma Hornung's Rocky who also was
lucky in group on Saturday and picked up a Group 4 under Norm Patton I believe. |
| While we were playing in Indy, Chris Jones was
in New York with Anne Rappaport's boy Edo winning a specialty and Breed
at the Garden. All that and just a year old the day after Westminster, he
surely was one of the younger dogs there. I have some pictures from Joni
Morningstar somewhere to put up ... in my copious spare time. |
| On the last day of February, many of us were
at the Cudahy show to show to Florise Hogan. It was held at a new site and
it was really lucky I found out about it because otherwise I would have
been up in West Allis, (will teach me to actually read the premium) having
gone to Cudahy for about 25 years at West Allis! WD & BW for a nice major
was Pat Doescher's puppy Magnum from the BBE class. WB was Karen Drentlaw's
bitch Bonnie from Open (unfortunately there were just as many bitches as
dogs, but that doesn't make a major here ...). Best of Breed was Tammy Szabo's
Toby and Best of Opposite Sex was Jude's Mae. |
Starting off the new year right,
Tammy and Toby got two group
placements at the Minnesota shows. Pat Doescher finished one of her lovely bitches.
At the Elgin Super Match on the same weekend, I took my new puppy
Dori, and two males, Rosie Van Laanen's Riki
and my co-owned (with Letha Gast) Niji. Dori got about what she deserved since "princess"
had ideas of her own about what to do on a lead ... I think we got three steps on
her. Yori's new puppy Kouchee(?) (Kori x Eri) won the breed and went on to a Group
First! I showed Riki and Jonathan showed Niji and the team of Jonathan/Niji took
Best of Breed! I took Niji back in for group and won the group on him as well. Neither
of them were picked Best in Match, but we still took home lovely crystal trophies
for the groups :) Jo-Ann made a rare appearance in the ring with her Toyo/Lilly
puppy Emma and took way more steps than Dori and got 2nd.
My first official shows for the year were Wheaton and Wisconsin Kennel Clubs
in late January. We stayed home from Wheaton due to very bad weather. Freezing rain
on top of ice just isn't a good combination for traveling! One of the very few times
I've missed a show due to weather. I showed Riki in Puppy Dog and Niji in BBE, and
Jonathan went back in on Niji and took WD, I think for a guy that's probably only
been to 10 dog shows in his life he's amassing quite a nice record ... 2 for 2!
Mickey won his veteran class (well
he was the only one in it) and his granddaughter owned by Jude Staniszewski took
the Breed over specials for the second time that I'm aware of. Jude thought it finished
her, but it seems AKC doesn't count the same way so she may still need one or two
more. Toby with Tammy was BOS. All three major awards went to Mickey grandkids :)
At Grayslake on Saturday Rosie Van Laanen's Riki was BW, WD for 2 points, and
Jude Staniszewski (I'm sure I have totally butchered the spelling, sorry!) showed
Mae to WB to finish her for the second time (private joke there, we thought she
had finished her (see above) at Milwaukee. She was also BOS to my and Pat Doescher's
Jimmy for his first Best of Breed as a special. On Sunday, there were some more
dogs entered and Letha Gast's & my Niji took his first major from the BBE class,
Karen Drentlaw's Bonnie was WB from the Puppy Class. Best of Breed was Anne Rappaport's
Edo shown by Chris Jones and BOS was Mae.
