Crufts 1997 — Judge Mrs. I. Dyke (Judge's comments/critiques, for 1st and 2nd place only, are in italics)

"The fact that exhibitors only had 5 shows to qualify at during 1996 certainly produced a quality entry today. I feel that size has definitely improved over the last few years, with far less variation in height. However, hind movement could still improve, too many exhibits crossing and plaiting behind. I also feel that breeders are losing that lovely rich red, I would have to describe as gold or even pale gold. Nails could also be darker. However, overall the breed is continuing to improve & becoming far more stable in type and soundness.

A special thank you to my two stewards, Arthur and Julie Reed, who had a very trying time coping with the 12 exhibits which had to be transferred, but they coped coolly & calmly & judging was not seriously delayed.”

one of the dog classes, either Puppy Dog, Post Graduate Dog or Open Dog.

Jaime thinks Puppy Dog, though. The one on the right is a Mymsin dog.

Class 1019 Special Puppy Dog

  1. Clew's Mymsin Umi (Ch. Kerrilands Total Majic x Mymsin Katsuko) "Just over 12 months of age, red with typical head & expression, good body with short, level back & required spring of rib, moved very steadily on a loose lead although a little close behind at this stage of his development"
  2. Hillard's Tanzu Mr Motivator (Geifang Red Dragon for Bellicose x Geifang Popcorn) "Promising youngster, lovely head and expression & well balanced body. Just preferred the hind action of 1."

Class 1021 Post Graduate Dog (10 competing)

  1. Rudling's Oakshadow Gold Chip for Gnildur (Int. Ch. Wellshim Black Jack is Vormund x Oakshadow is the Biz for Gnilder) "At just over 2 years of age, this dog is maturing well, lovely head & expression with full cheeks, nice deep furrow & correctly set ears, sound body with good topline & tail, well muscled, light, smart mover with good parallel hind action, in excellent coat and condition."
  2. Adey's Vormund Take That (Wellshim The Prince by Vormund x Vormund the Starlet) "Very close up to 1, has all the same attributes but is not so positive in hind action."
  3. Spencer's Vormund Prince of Thieves with Peskiz (Wellshim the Prince by Vormund x Wellshim Red Rose)

Res Clew's Mymsin Hikaru (Makoto Red Alert x Makoto Baroness at Mymsin)

VHC Coleman's Vormund Take Five (Wellshim The Prince by Vormund x Vormund the Starlet)

Class 1022 Limit Dog (9 competing)

  1. Winder & Dunhill's Vormund Victor (Int. Ch. Wellshim Black Jack is Vormund x Wellshim Rising Star) "Well balanced, in excellent coat & condition with tight well knuckled feet, good depth of chest & spring of rib, correct tailset, very sound natural mover."
  2. Sillett & Fysh's Oakshadow Sock It to Em (Makoto Aka Danshaku x Wellshim Sadako at Vormund) "Quality dog in full coat, lovely head & expression. Just preferred the hind action of 1."
  3. Andrew's Vormund Double Take to Claran (Wellshim The Prince by Vormund x Vormund the Starlet)

Class 1022A Open Dog (7 competing)

  1. Cowland's Ch. Kerriland's Total Majic (Chevawn Certain Majic at Kerrilands x Kerrilands Total Eclispe) "Standing this dog is perfection, in immaculate coat & condition, beautiful head & expression with lovely full cheeks, well marked furrow & correctly set-on small ears, well balanced body with elbows lying close & well boned straight forearms, correct chest & spring of rib, good tailset & just the right amount of hind angulation, is very difficult to fault. CC, but had to concede to the more positive hind action of the bitch when it came to the challenge for BOB."
  2. Sillett & Fysh's Vormund I'm Mercury at Oakshadow (Int. Ch. Wellshim Black Jack is Vormund x Wellshim Sadako at Vormund) "Another very sound dog of quality who could not quite match the performance of 1. In excellent coat & condition & had the better hind action of the two but was not so free & true in front, well balanced throughout & I had no hesitation in awarding him the RCC."
  3. Clew's Mymsin Chikara (Mymsin Konara x Makoto Baroness at Mymsin)

Res Campion's Makoto Tobias Chevawn (Jap. Ch. Juho of Suishoen at Makoto x Makoto Kitsuneno Jusei)

VHC Neath's Chevawn Certain Charm at Buffrey (Makoto Tobias Chevawn x Makoto Talimara Chevawn)

Class 1023 Special Veteran Dog

  1. Campion's Makoto Tobias Chevawn (Jap. Ch. Juho of Suishoen at Makoto x Makoto Kitsuneno Jusei) "True red, still in lovely coat & condition for his age whose type and style could be used as a role model for the breed. A very energetic & sound mover."

Class 1025 Special Junior Bitch

  1. Cowland's Kerriland's Total Mystique (Chevawn Certain Majic at Kerrilands x Kerrilands Total Eclispe) "Lovely young bitch, beautifully balanced & immaculately presented, good head & expression, correct hind angulation & tailset, moved soundly."
  2. Wales' Harrenvolk Kami (Ch. Kerriland's Total Majic x Harrenvolk Himeko) "Slightly taller than 1, but well balanced throughout. Not quite as positive on the move."
  3. Murphy's Mufasa Red Jam Jar (Macadamia Rising Sun x Macadamis Princess)

Class 1026 Post Graduate Bitch (8 competing)

  1. Adey & Dunhill's Oakshadow Little Bitz of Vormund (Oakshadow Smart Cookie x Wellshim Sadako at Vormund) "Pale red with good overall balance, typical head & expression, good hind action but not quite as positive in front."
  2. Packer's Burwen Wild N Wicked (Oakshadow Smart Alec at Burwen x Makoto S'no Surprise) "Darker in colour than 1, very sound lady of correct size and balance. In the final analysis just preferred the tailset of 1."

Res Bell's Kadota Secret Talk (Oakshadow Sock It to Em x Vormund Smart Talk about Kadota)

  1. Hardwick's Geifand Hocus Pocus at Janeryl (Azgard Shotokan at Potterspride x Geifang the Geisha) "Not yet a glamour girl, but one of the soundest Shibas I have judged, lovely head & expression, well balanced throughout, light and free parallel movement. Not profusely coated at the moment but I feel has still to come into her best. RCC."
  2. Winder's Sapporo Holly Hobbie by Vormund (Wellshim Black Jack is Vormund x Wellshim Poatic Dream) "Very sound mover, true both coming & going away, lovely head & expression. Good body but felt could do with a little more length of leg to complete the picture."
  3. Holmes' Suraliam Black Pearl (Geifang Yamaha x Krystal Kisses)

Res Waters' Poldark Akemi (Kerrilands Mr Solo x Leimonchek Holly Berry)

VHC Coleman's Vormund Maid Marion (Wellshim The Prince by Vormund x Vormund Annies Song)

  1. Dunhill's Ch. Vormund I'm Smartie (Wellshim Black Jack is Vormund x Makoto Lady Lisa at Yorlander) "What can I say about his lady that has not been said before, quick alert mover in complete harmony with her expert handler, has that elusive star quality that everyone would die for, very sound conformation throughout, perhaps not as fully coated as I have seen her but even in this quality entry could not be denied the CC & BOB. Very pleased to see her gain G3 in a very strong group."
  2. Cartwright's Steldawn Little Cameo of Amreco (Makoto Richji at Steldawn x madason Momento at Upend) "Slightly larger all through than 1 but another very sound bitch whose movement was free & true."
