September Shows

We went to several shows in September. West Bend had two shows over Labor Day and several of us brought bitches and we had several majors available. On Saturday under Kenneth Miller Niji got his second major from the BBE class and Pat's BBE bitch got the major, I know she's out of Cho Cho but I can't remember her name! Jonathan showed Alf in the breed so that I could stay on Niji to try for the major and Alf showed pretty well for him and got the breed as well. One thing I can say about Mr. Miller is he wants to see ears! On the second day it was a great day for Jenny P as she got her second major on her male and also a major on her Shandell bitch! The judge was Mrs. Toddie Clark.

The following weekend Jenny's male did not show as he ate something off the counter he should not have, I believe it was a stick of butter. We hope he's feeling better today as I believe he is trying to finish up at Manitowoc as I type.  Anyway, at Kenosha KC Niji took WD both days with no competition and unfortunately was not able to beat Jo-Ann Gray's and our new bitch Emma for BW. I had Emma in Am-Bred because she's still not real steady on the table, but I guess the judges didn't care as Emma also took the breed on Sunday for an additional point over specials so finished up her weekend with 3 points. Tammy's Toby was Best of Breed on the first day. Judges were Peggy Hogg and Ric Cashoudian.

More apologies

Has it really been since March that I updated the ShibaWeb? So much has happened since then, Jonathan and I showed and finished ALF for Joy Burlingame, I'm sure Pat Doescher's finished several dogs, Toby got a Group First at Chain O Lakes and, oh yeah, Jonathan and I got married (pictures to come). Now that things are STARTING to get back to normal, I will start updating this again in a more timely manner!

At the Waukesha shows Jenny P's male took BW, WD for his first major (and hers I believe), Pat D. finished Henna, a cute puppy dog from MN was RWD to the major, and our Sweetie was RWB. Judge was Don Rogers who always enjoys judging dogs and makes a fuss over the cute bitches and puppies on the table. Toby was BOB in his summer underwear, good luck to him in group. We are not entered for Sunday, but will post results as we receive them!

JAPANESE DOGS (Michiko Chiba) New HB/DJ

keywords (Akita, Shiba, Kishu, Shikoku, Kai, Hokkaido, Japanese Spitz, Japanese Terrier, Chin, Tosa)

The book to treat not just the Akita or the Shiba but all the breeds of Japanese dog, and to explore the differences among this fascinating and interrelated group.

It shows each of the ten breeds in stunning photographs and describes in detail each dog's distinctive characteristics, temperament and behavior.

Japanese Dogs traces the history of the largest organization in Japan for preserving and protecting the breeds -- known as Nippo -- as well as the Nippo Standard for the Japanese Dog and the way that judging is conducted at Nippo shows. It traces the history of the dog in Japan, including the two times in the twentieth century all the breeds were in imminent danger of extinction, and how they were brought back to the their current numbers and level of popularity.

Japanese Dogs outlines the dogs' traditional use as partners in hunting wild animals such as boar and bear and includes also stories about well-known dogs like Hachiko the akita and Tama the shiba that saved her owner.

This book also describes an unusual breed, the Jomon Shiba -- a contemporary dog that has been bred, on the basis of fossil remains, to resemble as closely as possible a long-extinct breed from Paleolithic times.

In addition to thirty-two pages of color photos, Japanese Dogs is illustrated throughout with numerous black-and-white photos of other, lesser known breeds, scenes from dog shows, archaelogical finds, and ukiyoe and other paintings.

Japanese Dogs is sure to be of interest to enthusiasts of any of the Japanese breeds, and to admirers of dogs everywhere.
